Nuevo Mundo New Directors Festival – Teatro Dallas

Teatro Dallas is seeking emerging directors for the next cycle of the Nuevo Mundo New Directors Festival, a mentorship-driven opportunity designed to support artists at the very beginning of their directing journey.

This opportunity is specifically for individuals who have either directed once professionally or never directed before. If you are ready to take your first or next step into directing with support, resources, and guidance, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Receive

Selected directors will be fully supported throughout the process, including:

• A professional directing mentor to guide you every step of the way
• Dedicated rehearsal space
• Performance run at the Latino Cultural Center Black Box
• A production budget to allocate toward actors, designers, and materials

This structure ensures all directors have equal resources, while still giving you the flexibility to shape your production based on your artistic vision.

You will collaborate with Teatro Dallas to select a play that excites you and aligns with the scope of the festival.

Who Should Apply

• First-time directors or those who have directed only once professionally
• Artists eager to learn, experiment, and grow within a supportive environment
• Individuals interested in collaborative, mentor-guided development
• Any and all racial or gender identities.

Selection Process

1. Application Review
   Submissions will be evaluated by a selection committee
2. Round Two: Video Submission
   Selected applicants will be asked to submit a short video discussing a play they are interested in directing
3. Final Round: Interview
   Finalists will participate in a brief interview before final selections are made

Timeline

• Application Deadline: May 1 (end of day)
• Rehearsals Begin: As early as January 4, 2027
• Performance Windows:
  • First week of February 2027
  • First week of March 2027
  • First week of April 2027

Rehearsals are typically held in the evenings, around 6:00–10:00 PM or 6:30–10:30 PM. Applicants should be prepared to list potential scheduling conflicts.
