DESCRIPTION

Floor Thirteen is looking for actors for our 2026 Season!

We are seeking NYC-based performers who excel in/are excited by the following:

- Improvisation
- Devised Theatre
- Collaboration
- Creative Brainstorming

About Us:

Floor Thirteen is a devised theatre company, now entering our third season. Each year we create a series of new 10-minute plays from the ground up, writing parts for our cast members based on the improvised work and ideas they bring to the room. This year, we are very excited to announce that, instead of 4-5 short pieces, we plan to expand our work into 2 brand new full-length plays. This is our most ambitious project yet, and we hope to grow our cast and welcome new members accordingly.

About the Project:

The original seed ideas for each play are in place, but the words have not yet been set to paper. We're in the process of gathering a group of excited, dependable actors who will improvise and create with us over the course of several months. In the end, we will literally write parts around the characters each cast member brings into the room. Using a series of guided prompts, our directors will shape and mold the story until the show is ready to be put up this fall in Manhattan.

What We're Looking For:

Creative, motivated, and passionate individuals who are excited to sink their teeth into a new project with excitement and dependability. As this will be a long-term process, we're hoping to find performers who deeply enjoy the process of creation. Please only apply if you are willing to commit yourself to this project with enthusiasm and dedication, knowing that, if you do, you will end up with a part that has been custom-written for you, one which you will be able to perform on a New York stage.

Scheduling Info:

Rehearsals will be subject to actor availability, but plan on committing to at least 1 rehearsal/week until we get closer to show date, at which time rehearsals will increase in frequency.

Production dates are set for mid-late September.

Audition Information:

To audition, please email the following to [email protected]:

- A short, improvised monologue taking on the character and circumstances of one of the options listed below.

- A parent saying goodbye to their child (reason up for interpretation)
- An employee quitting their job for an unusual reason
- One half of a couple who has discovered their partner is having an affair
- A criminal who has just been caught in the act
- Something else!

(Note, we are not looking at your writing ability. Instead, we want to see how you create when you are given minimal preparation. Feel free to plan out your monologue/a fun backstory, but please do not compose a script or practice too much in advance.)

- (Optional) A one-minute, well-known monologue that you have reimagined. This could be a famous comedy done as a drama, or vice versa. We're looking for artists who can show creative ingenuity. Surprise us!

Callbacks for this project will be held in Late-April/Early May. We will accept submissions on a rolling basis until April 20th.
