As part of our dedication to community engagement, we are seeking a highly motivated and creative Education Director to join our team.
Position Overview:
The Education Director plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing educational programs and outreach initiatives (including the Family Theatre / Field Trip programs) to engage the community, promote the performing arts, and support our mission. This position is multifaceted, requiring a combination of artistic and organizational leadership and instruction, strategic planning, program development, community outreach, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The Education Director will also be involved in patron and production-related responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
Education Program Execution and Development:
- Foster a culture of inclusivity, kindness, and support for all students
- Design and implement innovative educational programs and initiatives that align with the theatre company's artistic vision, values, and standard of excellence.
- Develop curriculum and educational materials under the guidance of administration.
- Collaborate with schools, colleges, and community organizations to develop partnerships and foster long-term relationships that support the theatre company's educational goals to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the performing arts among students, educators, and the general public. - Headline all marketing for the educational programs while overseeing and evaluating the enrollment of all classes.
- Serve as a teaching artist for a number of theatre and acting classes to students grades K-Adult.
- Interview, train, and supervise the resident teaching artists, select guest artists, and volunteers.
- Work with the Producing Artistic and the Associate Artistic Directors to set and meet goals to improve and grow the educational programs in a way that best serves our community.
- Keep communication strong with parents and families
Community Outreach and Engagement:
- Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, nonprofits, and educational institutions to identify collaboration opportunities and expand the theatre company's outreach. Including the Family Theatre and Field Trip programs.
- Plan and execute community events, workshops, and lectures to engage diverse audiences and foster a love for the performing arts.
- Represent the theatre company at community meetings, events, and conferences to promote awareness and garner support for our educational initiatives.
Artist Residencies and Workshops:
- Coordinate and facilitate artist residencies, workshops, and masterclasses led by professional artists and performers to provide hands-on experiences for students and aspiring artists.
- Collaborate with the production team to offer behind-the-scenes tours, technical workshops, and other educational opportunities that provide insight into the theatre production process.
Grants and Fundraising:
- Research and identify grant opportunities and develop proposals to secure funding for educational programs and outreach initiatives.
- Collaborate with the development team to cultivate relationships with donors and sponsors who are interested in supporting education and community engagement efforts.
- Assist in the planning and execution of fundraising events and initiatives related to education and outreach.
Patron and Production Responsibilities:
- Assist as with front-of-house duties during educational, field trip, and Family Theatre performances as well as occasional front of house support for the professional series, ensuring a positive experience for patrons and visitors. This may include but is not limited to: house management, running the bar, box office assistance, phone duties, general maintenance and cleaning of the lobby and seating areas.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to promote education and outreach initiatives through various channels, including social media, newsletters, and the theatre company's website.
- Support the production team by providing assistance with anything that is necessary for the benefit of the company. Support may include, but is not limited to: technical direction, sound design, sound technician, carpentry, deck chief, running crew, stage management, assistant stage manager, prop master, costume assistant, load in, strike, general maintenance and cleaning the shop, props, rehearsal, costume areas, and anything else the production team may need assistance with.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in theatre, arts administration, education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Proven experience in developing and implementing successful educational programs or community outreach initiatives within the performing arts or cultural sector.
- Strong knowledge of the performing arts industry, including theatre production processes and educational trends.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Creative and innovative mindset with the ability to develop engaging educational content and experiences.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Experience in grant writing, fundraising, or donor cultivation is desirable.
- Familiarity with marketing and promotional strategies for educational programs and community engagement initiatives.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required, to accommodate performances and events.
Compensation: $60,000–$75,000 salary and benefits. Benefits include employer-paid health insurance, PTO, and holiday pay. A 401(k) plan, vision and dental insurance, and dependent health insurance are available, with premiums paid by the employee.
