DESCRIPTION

Princeton Summer Theater (PST) is a non-profit summer stock theater company, primarily managed by current and recent undergraduate students from the greater Princeton area (though we accept applications from absolutely anyone!). We are seeking a professional or semi-professional director for our second mainstage production, The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow.

Operated from the historic Hamilton Murray Theater on Princeton University’s campus, PST is dedicated to training the up-and-coming leaders of the theater world and offers young professionals unparalleled first-hand experience in theatermaking. PST won the 2019 JerseyArts.com People’s Choice Award for “Best Small Theater,” and our vast alumni network includes Tony Award-winning actress Bebe Neuwirth (Chicago), Tony Award-winning producer Geoff Rich (Avenue Q), Hollywood actor William Hootkins (Star Wars, Batman), and many other wonderful entertainment professionals.

Directors at Princeton Summer Theater gain valuable, paid experience by working with a caring, supportive, and vibrant group of young theatre-makers. Our director will receive a stipend and housing and meals for the duration of their rehearsal period and performances.

The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow

Rehearsal period: June 15 - July 2

Opening night: July 2

Description: Richard Hannay’s monotonous life is put in sudden danger when he meets a woman who claims she’s a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called “The 39 Steps” is hot on the man’s trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale. A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, The 39 Steps amounts to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure onstage!

Qualifications: The 39 Steps is a fast-paced, epic comedic thriller where 4 actors play over 150 characters. Expert timing and coordination is key to the success of the production. Experience in movement/dance/stage combat is preferred.
