The Invitation:
Long Wharf Theatre (LWT) is a gathering place dedicated to producing boundary-breaking theatre with and for its kaleidoscopic communities. We believe that theatre is for everyone, and that art and activism can live side by side. We are committed to building boundary-breaking theatre with, for, and by the greater New Haven community.

LWT seeks an experienced and dynamic front-line fundraiser as an Assistant Director of Development who will be responsible for major gift fundraising, corporate and matching gifts, event planning and execution, and assisting on major fundraising campaigns. The Assistant Director of Development will work closely with the DoD and Individual Giving Coordinator.

The Duties (including but not limited to):

Relationship Management and Solicitation (50%)
+ Work in collaboration with the DoD to develop, manage, and execute fundraising strategies, work plans, annual appeals, and campaign calendars to achieve an annual contributed revenue goal of at least $3 million.
+ Responsible for in-person gift solicitation, either solo or as a partner to executive leaders.
+ Participate in the development, planning, and execution of special events (e.g. open rehearsals, season events, member events, annual gala, and donor receptions).
+ Create donor cultivation, solicitation, and acknowledgement correspondence.
+ Assist in the production of targeted mailing lists for appeals, invitation mailings, and season brochures.
+ Work closely with the marketing staff to produce printed materials related to fundraising (e.g. invitations, donor brochures, season materials).
+ Assist the DoD in managing the development team and volunteers.
+ Weekend and evening work will be required.

Strategy and Cultivation (30%)
+ Develop strategy and execution to expand opportunities in support of the annual fund.
+ Work in collaboration with the DoD to cultivate individual and institutional sponsors for LWT's programs.
+ Support External Relations in incorporating fundraising messaging, as appropriate, into all public communications.
+ Regularly represent LWT in a positive manner at community events.

Monitoring and Reporting (20%)
+ Track and report relationship management activity using internal systems and processes.
+ Monitor quarterly and annual activity to achieve contributed revenue goals.
+ Provide data analysis and reporting of the effectiveness and efficiency of the individual giving programs.

Other
+ Participate and cooperate in all training efforts as requested and required by LWT, including but not limited to yearly Sexual Harassment Prevention Training, and other trainings in safety and administrative procedures.
+ Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

The Skills and Expertise Needed:

+ A solution-oriented thinker who understands how to effectively fundraise, build authentic relationships, and creative win-win opportunities for the organization, our donors, and the artists and communities we serve.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills
+ Able to take initiative and work alone or work in a group as a member of a team.
+ Comfort with cross-departmental collaboration and internal communication is essential.
+ Ability to maintain multiple projects simultaneously and successfully meet deadlines.
+ A high level of discretion and confidentiality concerning donor levels.
+ Ability and willingness to learn web-based software required for the job and for administrative purposes.

The Experience Needed:
+ Direct experience in strategizing, leading and implementing a fundraising campaign.
+ Experience in setting and executing a clear plan to reach fundraising goals.
+ Basic knowledge, interest, passion and/or understanding of theatre and the producing process of site-specific work.
+ Experience working collaboratively as part of a team.
+ Experience working in a supervisory capacity.
+ Excellent computer proficiency with email, calendars, spreadsheets, and word processing (MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook).

Physical/Other Requirements:
+ Proven ability to work in the US.
+ Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safety and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
+ Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

SALARY

$70,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
