This summer (June–August 2025), Bard SummerScape returns with a vibrant season of dance, theater, opera, music, and the beloved Spiegeltent. Presented by the Fisher Center at Bard, this celebrated multi-arts festival takes place in person on Bard’s idyllic 1,000-acre campus, featuring performances in the stunning Frank Gehry-designed performing arts center.
The Company Management team works as the key artist, staff, and crew services representatives to provide accommodations and services to over 600 SummerScape and Bard Music Festival visiting artists and seasonal staff, specifically in the realms of transportation, housing, and hospitality. The team strives to create a people-centered, hospitality-minded environment for all participants.
The Company Management Driver reports to the Company Manager in charge of Transportation to provide pickups and dropoffs to and from the SummerScape festival site as well as shuttle company members around the local area. Drivers will also work closely with artists, production staff, project producers, administrative staff, and box office staff.
While prior experience is helpful, we are accepting applications from entry-level candidates, including recently-graduated students* who are eager team players and are willing to receive training on specific tasks related to being a Company Management Driver.
This is a seasonal position from June 1 – August 22, non-exempt (overtime-eligible), paid hourly at a rate of $19–21/hr. Hours will average 35–40 hours/week, with the potential for overtime.
Local residence is required from June 1 – August 22; campus housing will be provided free of charge if needed, including a single bedroom and shared amenities based on availability. Employees will have access to three (3) meals per weekday and two (2) meals per weekend day on campus during the residency period. Should campus dining agreements or options change from the time of the agreement, an equivalent per diem will be provided. PLEASE NOTE: Room and board may differ for current Bard College students.
*Due to the constraints of our rental car contracts, only candidates 25 years old and over can be considered for this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
General responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Support the day-to-day facilitation of local ground transportation for artist pickups, drop-offs, shopping runs, and other needs in coordination with the Travel and Transportation Company Manager
Complete an online training course during your first shift to become a Bard Certified Driver
Ensure adherence to the law as well as Bard and Fisher Center safety standards while driving
Coordinate and communicating with passengers in a kind and hospitable way while maintaining schedule, policies, and other directives from Travel and Transportation Company Manager
Drive a daily scheduled lunch shuttle in a 15 passenger van between the Fisher Center and campus dining hall
Maintain company vehicle fleet including refueling, cleaning, and scheduling maintenance in coordination with the Travel and Transportation Company Manager
Drive company vehicles for long-distance company needs, including artist and staff pick-up/drop-off to NYC area airports
Drive company vehicles for the purpose of hospitality supply pickups and amenity transport

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE
Experience in professional driving, hospitality, retail, or customer service roles
Only candidates with a valid driver’s license for more than 12 months can be considered due to the requirements of Bard’s Transportation department.
Must have a satisfactory driving record.
Must have experience driving a 12+ passenger van or comparable large vehicle
Only candidates 25 years old and over can be considered due to the constraints of our rental car contracts.
Candidates should be comfortable driving in and around the Hudson Valley, within New York City, and Albany areas.
Candidates should be comfortable driving at night.
Candidates should be comfortable driving solo for up to four hours at a time.
A welcoming demeanor and positive attitude are a must. Company Management team members are often the first person that visiting artists, personnel, and the public will meet when arriving at the festival.
Adherence to a basic dress code.
No two days will be the same; the ideal candidate will be flexible, have an all-hands-on-deck attitude, and possess a willingness to jump in to handle high-priority tasks.
Excellent organization skills, communication skills, and superior attention to detail.
Must be able to work closely with other team members and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and solving problems quickly.
Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in the performing arts, or at the Fisher Center, is a plus but not required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is typically scheduled Friday through Tuesday, 35-40 hours a week, with Wednesday and Thursday off. It will require flexible work hours within that schedule, including evenings, reflective of the dynamic schedule of a performing arts festival.
LOCATION
Bard’s beautiful 1,000-acre campus is situated on the east bank of the Hudson River, in Annandale-on Hudson, New York. Community life is defined by numerous cultural and recreational opportunities in the surrounding historic Hudson River Valley and by proximity to New York City. Nearby towns and villages include Rhinebeck, Tivoli, and Red Hook, New York.
