About Chester Theatre Company:

Chester Theatre Company is a professional nonprofit theatre located in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. Chester is dedicated to producing innovative, high-quality productions in an intimate setting, engaging artists and audiences in dynamic theatrical experiences.

Last season our four (4) shows garnered five (5) Berkshire Theater nominations and two (2) wins, and two (2) productions were named the 10 Best of the Year in the Berkshire Eagle. The Administrative Assistant will support the day-to-day operations of Chester over the summer. The Assistant will support cross-departmental administrative functions, including box office, development, and marketing. Duties include:

  • Assisting in the day-to-day of theater administration.
  • Organizing reports, documents, and materials related to office and theatre administrative functions.
  • Answering box office phone calls and placing ticket orders.
  • Shepherding program information—bios, notes, etc.—from drafts to printing.
  • Assisting with box office and front of house during all shows. 
  • Processing the mail and donations, prepping tax acknowledgements and entering donations received into our CRM, Audience View/Ovation.
  • Assisting with opening night parties and special events.
  • Coordinating ticket offers and managing relationships between Chester and community partners.
  • Drafting weekly marketing emails and post updates on social media as needed.

The ideal candidate has 1-3 years of experience in an administrative position, ideally in the performing arts or nonprofit setting. Other qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace
  • Experience with CRM or ticketing software preferred
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Collaborative spirit and ability to work independently
  • Enthusiasm for theatre and nonprofit arts organizations

This position will be paid a stipend of $10,000 for the duration of the contract. Candidates will be expected to begin by May 11 with a contract end date of August 30. Housing is provided for non-local applicants. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, and the position will remain open until filled. Interviews are expected to begin in early April.
