Singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress Meg Donnelly, known for her work as Addison in Disney’s Zombies film franchise, will make her Broadway debut in the Tony-winning Moulin Rouge! The Musical in November.
Donnelly, who also gained national recognition for her work as Taylor Otto on the ABC sitcom American Housewife, will step into the role of Satine starting November 11 for a limited engagement through March 1, 2026, at Broadway’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
In a statement Donnelly said, “I cannot believe I am saying the words, 'I am making my Broadway debut.' What. I have been dreaming of this moment since birth, and it is hard to fathom it is even real. I am beyond excited to play Satine and to be joining this incredible show, cast, and crew. You can tell it is truly family at Moulin Rouge! The Musical, everyone has been extremely welcoming and supportive. Ah! I am so happy to be surrounded by theatre kids again. I am coming home! This whole time I keep picturing what little me would be thinking!? I am doing this for her.”
In addition to her TV work, Donnelly is also making waves as a musician. Her latest EP is titled dying art.
The Broadway company currently features Emmy winner Wayne Brady (The Wiz, Let's Make a Deal) as Harold Zidler (through November 9), original Rent star Taye Diggs as the Duke of Monroth (through September 28), Ashley Loren as Satine, and Christian Douglas, in his Broadway debut, as Christian.
Moulin Rouge!, based on the 2001 film, opened on Broadway in 2019 following a Boston tryout. The musical was subsequently nominated for 14 Tony Awards in 2020, winning 10, including Best Musical.
The production is directed by Alex Timbers with a book by John Logan
(based on the Baz Luhrmann-directed movie of the same name) and
choreography by Sonya Tayeh. The score features covers of "Firework" by
Katy Perry, "Your Song" by Elton
John, and "Chandelier" by Sia, among many other modern pop songs. The
story takes place at Paris' famed Moulin Rouge and follows the tragic
love story between performer Satine and composer Christian.
The production's music team includes musical supervisor Justin Levine, music producer Matt Stine, and music director Andrew Graham. Orchestrations are by Levine, Stine, Katie Kresek, and Charlie Rosen, with dance arrangements by Levine and Stine.
Also on the creative team are scenic designer Derek McLane, costume
designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Justin Townsend, sound
designer Peter Hylenski, hair designer David Brian Brown, and makeup
designer Sarah Cimino, with creative services by Luhrmann and Catherine
Martin. Casting is by Jim Carnahan and Stephen Kopel.
