Regional News World Premiere of The Twenty Sided Tavern Set at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera

The production blends the worlds of tabletop roleplay games and theatre to create an interactive experience.

The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera has announced a new, interactive production as a part of the spring Greer Cabaret season: The Twenty Sided Tavern. The interactive multimedia piece will be presented April 15-April 30 in partnership with Session Zero.

The Twenty Sided Tavern is an improvised quest play. Relying on audience participation, each performance is uniquely tailored to decisions made by audience members on their phones using patented software from Gamiotics. Audience members choose which characters will appear each evening, as well as which paths they will take, and which decisions they will make along the journey. The in-mobile-browser platform does not require any special consoles, instead running on audience members' phones.

Inspired by the world created by Dungeons and Dragons, The Twenty Sided Tavern is functionally similar, but legally distinct from all other tabletop roleplaying games. Knowledge of the tabletop roleplay world is not required, as the structure of the game will be communicated within the show.

Created by David Andrew Laws, Sarah Reynolds, and David Carpenter, The Twenty Sided Tavern is written by Laws and directed by Nick O'Leary, with production design by Caite Hevner, and prop and costume design by Katie McGeorge. The game design is by Reynolds.

The interactive characters will be brought to life by Alex Abney, Aubrey Lace Taylor, DAGL, Eryn Barnes, Jack Corcoran, Madelyn Murphy, Mateo Ervin, R. Alex Murray, Reynolds, Travis Klemm, and Yordy Rosso.
