The world premiere of Unchilding by Joshua Kaufman will take place August 8 at Benzaquen Hall in the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City.
Visual artist Kaufman conceived the project based on recently discovered plays by John Walter Howley about growing up, specifically the loss of innocence and burden of responsibility.
Unchilding immerses the audience in an original audioscape featuring variations of Howley’s works while a sequence of stylized vignettes plays onstage.
The one-night-only, two-performance event will feature a 27-person ensemble comprised of Ashley Trawinski, Benjamin Daniel Culpepper, Bradley Carrington, Brittin Ward, Bruno Giraldi, Corinne MacLean, Elise Ramaekers, Eric Novak, Francisco Raposo, George Brown, Hannah Carne, Henry Larsen, James Alt, Juanes Montoya, Justyna Kostek, Kwangmin Lee, Lana Abdo, Lisa Maciel, Michael James Fry, Mitchell List, Paige Barry, Paul Donovan, Sean Hazen, Serena Roan, Steve Humphreys, Tara Ellwood, and Thomas Tyler West.
The creative team includes costume design by Emily Grace Mays, lighting design by Jessica Elliott, sound design by Diwas Gurung, Sean Lewis, and Singer Joy, and SFX make-up design by Sarah Bedrick.
