Works of Baz Luhrmann Will Be Spotlighted in New Las Vegas Production | Playbill

News Works of Baz Luhrmann Will Be Spotlighted in New Las Vegas Production Cirque du Soleil Theatrical and For The Record have joined forces for a new musical evening that will spotlight the works of Tony Award nominee Baz Luhrmann, who staged Puccini's La Bohème on Broadway, according to Billboard.

For The Record: BAZ, which will play Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay, will feature moments from such Luhrmann films as "Moulin Rouge," "The Great Gatsby" and "Romeo + Juliet."

A cross between a rock concert, nightclub and musical, For the Record was created by Shane Scheel, Christopher Lloyd Bratten and Anderson Davis. Emmy nominee Spencer Liff will choreograph.

"When we discovered For The Record we instantly knew that their vision of turning popular cinema into immersive entertainment would be a perfect match for Las Vegas," Scott Zeiger, president of Cirque du Soleil Theatrical, told Billboard.

Neither casting nor dates nor ticket information have been announced.

Luhrmann's La Bohème in 2002-03 had the look of his richly romantic film "Moulin Rouge." Its two 2003 Tony Award wins were for Scenic Design (Catherine Martin) and Lighting Design (Nigel Levings). The production was also nominated for Direction (Luhrmann), Revival of a Musical, Costume Design (Martin) and Orchestrations (Nicholas Kitsopoulos).
