Singer-songwriter Jesse Malin is bringing his autobiographical theatrical piece Silver Manhattan to Off-Broadway's Bowery Palace, performing February 18-March 29. Opening will be March 4.

The piece, written by Malin and Lauren Ludwig, is inspired by Malin's upcoming autobiography, Almost Grown: A New York Memoir, releasing April 7 via Akashic. Malin will talk and sing through his own coming-of-age story growing up in New York City, through to his 2023 struggle with a spinal stroke that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Performances will feature special guests throughout the run, and nightly pre-show gatherings.

Ellie Heyman is directing the show, which features music direction by Justin Craig and Derek Cruz. Tommy Kriegsmann (of ArKtype) and David Bason are producing.

Silver Manhattan is the most personal thing I've ever done on stage,” says Malin in a statement. “I want to run it in a smaller theatre, and look into the eyes of everyone in the room. I have so much history on the Bowery—I played CBGBs as a kid, and grew up in the neighborhood. My grandfather sold liquor to the bars up and down the Bowery. It’s nice to go back to the scene of the crime. There are a lot of beautiful ghosts and spirits on this sacred ground.”

Malin got his start fronting groundbreaking NYC hardcore band Heart Attack as a teenager, going on to become lead singer of D Generation. Solo album releases have included The Fine Art of Self DestructionGlitter in the GutterOutsiders, and Sad and Beautiful World. Malin has been embarking on a comeback following his stroke, beginning with a pair of 2024 concerts at Beacon Theatre.

"In 2023, before my accident, I was on this huge tour. Since I was 12, that’s how I made my living—traveling from city to city on this pirate ship, with my band, this gang,” he says. "Out of necessity, I created Silver Manhattan, a way I could bring the world to me. Come into my neighborhood, to my New York. Music has always been the best medicine."

The production will feature Bree Sharp, along with lighting design by Brian Scott, sound design by Angela Baughman, and set design by Marsha Ginsberg. Aislinn Curry will serve as production stage manager. Malin's band, which will back him at performances, features Rob Clores on keyboards, Paul Garisto on drums, James Cruz on bass, and Satish Indofunk and Danny Rey on horns.
