NBC News reported that Nair confirmed the show was in the works while speaking Nov. 9 at the The Indo American Arts Council's First Annual Literary Festival.
"We just finished casting for Monsoon Wedding on Broadway yesterday [Friday]," she told the audience, adding that it will premiere in November 2015.
As previously reported, a private New York City industry reading, directed by Nair, will be presented in December.
The musical has a book by screenwriter Sabrina Dhawan and features music by Vishal Bhardwaj with lyrics by Tony Award nominee Susan Birkenhead (Jelly's Last Jam, Triumph of Love, Working).
Producers Margo Lion, Stephen Hendel and Colin Callender are attached to the project that centers on "a stressed father, a bride-to-be with a secret, a smitten event planner, and relatives from around the world during preparations for an arranged marriage in India." Andy Einhorn will musical direct the reading, which will employ a cast of South Asian actors.
Broadway and Bollywood fused in 2004, when the musical Bombay Dreams bowed at the Broadway Theatre April 29, 2004, for a run through Jan. 1, 2005.
