
NSO Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke conducts the National Symphony Orchestra. Guest vocalists include Christopher Johnstone and Nicole Parker. Fox 5's Shawn Yancy is the narrator.
The concert will feature patriotic favorites, including Aaron Copland’s "Fanfare for the Common Man," "America the Beautiful" and Randol Alan Bass’ "A New Birth of Freedom," a setting of the Gettysburg Address for orchestra and speaker.
Parker and Johnstone will sing perennial Broadway favorites, including songs from Man of La Mancha, The King and I, South Pacific, Wicked and Les Misérables.
Parker, best known for her work in the TV sketch comedy "MADtv," is currently appearing as Elphaba in the national tour of Wicked. Actor and singer Johnstone alternates between opera and musical theatre, performing with the Glimmerglass Festival, Opera Pacific, Cincinnati Pops and the Boston Pops, among others.
The 90-minute program is free and open to the public. Gates open at 3 PM.
