What Do Critics Think of Here Lies Love in Seattle? | Playbill

The Verdict What Do Critics Think of Here Lies Love in Seattle? The Imelda Marcos musical is being explored anew with a proscenium staging and an eye toward Broadway.
Cast Navid Baraty

Here Lies Love, the immersive musical about Filipino First Lady Imelda Marcos, created by David Byrne and DJ Fatboy Slim, officially opened April 19 at Seattle Repertory Theatre. The entire creative team from the acclaimed New York production has reunited on the West Coast to test a new version of the show, which, if successful, may be headed to Broadway.

Here Lies Love premiered to acclaim Off-Broadway at the Public Theater in 2013. Set within a dance club atmosphere, the production had no traditional seating, and theatregoers stood and moved with the actors throughout the show. The Seattle production, however, while still completely immersive, fits within a traditional proscenium space.

Here Lies Love is directed by Tony nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher), has scenic design by David Korins (Hamilton), and choreography by Annie-B Parson. Several cast members from the Off-Broadway run star in the Seattle production, including Jaygee Macapugay in the role of Imelda, Conrad Ricamora as Aquino, and Melody Butiu as Estrella.
