American Psycho: The Musical will return to New York City in 2027, running at a venue in Brooklyn, The Empyrean Club, with dates to be announced.
Currently in development, the production will be directed by Max Hunter, Founding Artistic Director of The Bridge Production Group. Some of musical's original creative team have also reunited for the production, including book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale) and song writer Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening). The production will also feature choreography by Baye & Asa (as seen at The Joyce Theater, the Guggenheim, and with the Martha Graham Dance Company).
The project is being developed by a managing partnership including Hunter, Tony Award-winning producer Lucas Katler (Merrily We Roll Along, Slave Play, Here Lies Love), and producer Jesse Singer, founder of Neon Noir and a developer of immersive theatrical and experiential productions including American Psycho on Broadway and The Shark Is Broken.
Based on Bret Easton Ellis’s novel, American Psycho follows Patrick Bateman, who has it all—looks, money, style, and status. Living the high life in 1980s Manhattan, he and his entourage buy the most expensive designer clothes, eat at the most exclusive restaurants and party at the hottest clubs. But privately, Patrick indulges in another kind of transgression. And people—including those closest to him—keep disappearing.
The musical premiered on Broadway in 2016, playing 27 previews and 54 performances before closing. The production would go on to two Tony Award nominations, for Best Lighting Design (for Justin Townsend) and Scenic Design of a Musica (for Es Devlin).
Casting and further creative team information for the upcoming production will be revealed at a later date.
