This season's RuPaul's Drag Race Rusical premiered March 17, with the remaining queens starring in an "all-dancing," "all-prancing" show based on the film and Broadway musical Footloose. Watch the full performance of Wigloose: The Rusical above.
Wigloose takes place in the small town of West Bumtuck, where drag has been outlawed. If that sounds familiar, you're not imagining things. Writers drew inspiration from recent bigoted legislation targeted at drag performances, and the Drag Race episode also featured the competing queens discussing the impact of anti-drag legislation on their community.
Aside from the musical theatre-infused challenges, Drag Race seems to have a lot of crossover with theatre fans. Two-time season winner Jinkx Monsoon is currently appearing on the Main Stem as Matron "Mama" Morton in Chicago, and season 9 queen Peppermint made history as the first openly Trans woman to originate a principal role on Broadway in 2018's Head Over Heels.
Rusicals have become a perennial favorite performance challenge for the competition reality show. Season 14 featured a Moulin Rouge!-inspired Rusical, Moulin Ru.
