Video Watch: Klea Blackhurst Sings Cut Hello, Dolly! Song 'World Take Me Back'

The song is one of two written for the musical's first intended star, Ethel Merman.

Klea Blackhurst takes on an infamously cut song from Jerry Herman's Hello, Dolly! in a new video released from her concert One of the Girls. Blackhurst is performing the Jerry Herman-themed evening again February 16, at Chelsea Table + Stage, part of her ongoing career retrospective series The Box Set. Watch Blackhurst sing "World Take Me Back" above.

The song is one of two tunes written for the musical's original intended star, Ethel Merman. Designed for Merman's distinctive belt, both "World Take Me Back" and "Love, Look In My Window" were deleted from the score when Merman turned the show down, with the role famously going to Carol Channing. When Merman did ultimately play the role, the final replacement during the original Broadway run, both songs were inserted back into the score, a Broadway rarity.

Blackhurst's upcoming Chelsea Table + Stage shows also include Autumn in New York: Vernon Duke’s Broadway (April 13); A Brand New Evening with Klea Blackhurst (May 18); Dreaming of a Song: The Music of Hoagy Carmichael, featuring Billy Stritch (October 19); and Everything the Traffic Will Allow: The Songs and Sass of Ethel Merman (November 16).

A streaming option is also available for all shows.

Blackhurst's recent theatrical credits include the Witch in Into the Woods for Opera North; Ragtime: The Symphonic Concert with the Boston Pops at Tanglewood, conducted by Keith Lockhart; and Ragtime: The Symphonic Concert with the Cincinnati Pops, under the direction of John Morris Russell.

Chelsea Table + Stage is located at 152 West 26th Street. Tickets are available at ChelseaTableandStage.com.
