Dame Julie Andrews was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert February 18 to reminisce about her days on Broadway and discuss her new and old work.
Andrews, who was made a Dame in 2000, described the ceremony, explaining, “It’s this lovely, quiet, honor that you know your country has given you something beautiful. And to have been honored by your monarch, it’s a lovely thing,”
Upon discussing the British native’s Americanization, host Colbert asked if Andrews watched the Super Bowl, to which she excitedly replied, “end to end.” Turns out, Andrews and Colbert rooted for opposing teams.
Andrews reminisced about playing Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady and performing her stunt work in Mary Poppins. She recounted plummeting onto the stage from the wires that held her up while she flew away in Poppins' famous flying umbrella scene.
Andrews’ most recent television work is a Netflix show, Julie’s Greenroom. “It’s actually exposing [children] to the wonders and the joy of the arts,” Andrews said. The show will be available on Netflix March 17.
