Off-Broadway News New Victory Theater Reveals Lineup for 2024-2025 Season

The Off-Broadway company will blend theatre, circus, dance, puppetry, and music from around the globe in its upcoming season.

The New Victory Theater has revealed the lineup of productions for its 2024-2025 season. With nine productions in total, the company for young audiences will blend theatre, circus, dance, puppetry, and music from around the globe throughout the season.

The season will kick off with a reimagined The Princess and the Pea, a co-production with the New Vic Theatre, contemporary circus company Upswing, and Unicorn Theatre. The production will run October 19-27, and is recommended for ages four to seven.

From October 30-November 10, New Victory will present New Shows, an object-based theatre performance from artist Tian Gombau curated for especially young audiences (ages two to five). The co-production with Spain's Tian Gombau Companyia de Teatre will include select performances offered in Spanish.

Next in the season, Anton Dudley and Faye Chiao's Baba Yaga and the Firebird will receive a world premiere run November 6-17. The original tale based on Slavic folklore is presented in association with Playhouse Square, and recommended for ages seven and up.

From November 22-December 29, New Victory and Las Vegas' Cirque Mechanics will celebrate the holiday season with Yuletide Factory. The holiday show, recommended for ages five and up, includes contortion, juggling, trampoline, acro-dancing, and more.

To ring in the new year, New Victory will present the NYC premiere of Little Murmur January 8-19, 2025. The co-production with Aakash Odedra Company, Lewis Major Projects and The Spark Arts For Children depicts the trials of living with dyslexia through dance.

From February 12-23, hip-hop dance company Rennie Harris Puremovement will return to the New Victory stage with Nuttin' but a Word, a collection of works that challenge the structural integrity of various street dance styles. The show is recommended for ages eight and up.

The following month, New Victory will present Song of the North from Fictionville studio with support from Two Chairs. The work is created, designed, and directed by Hamid Rahmanian, and tells the classic Persian tale of the heroine Manijeh while incorporating 500 handmade puppets. The production is recommended for ages eight and up.

From March 27-April 13, Chicago's Manual Cinema will stage the cinematic shadow puppet show The Magic City at New Victory. The production uses overhead projectors, paper shadow puppets, actors on camera, and live music for a modern adaptation of Edith Nesbit's 1910 novel, and is recommended for ages six and up.

The season will close with MOYA, an acrobatic celebration of South African culture and heritage from Zip Zap Circus. The production, which is set against the backdrop of Nelson Mandela’s Rainbow Nation and recommended for ages five and up, will run April 11-27.

“The sheer breadth of experiences that the 2024-25 season will offer New Victory audiences is a testament to our value of reflecting and serving the multicultural city that we call home,” Artistic Director Mary Rose Lloyd said in a statement. “Our 29th season promises to be an opportunity for young audiences to continue to grow, dream, and experience phenomenal works of art.”
