SpongeBob SquarePants, The Broadway Musical, directed by Tina Landau, officially opened on Broadway at the Palace Theatre December 4, 2017.
The show arrived in New York after a well-received 2016 world-premiere engagement in Chicago (then titled The SpongeBob Musical), also directed by Landau.
Reprising their roles from the musical’s Chicago premiere are Slater as SpongeBob and Danny Skinner as Patrick Star, as well as Gavin Lee as Squidward Q. Tentacles, Lilli Cooper as Sandy Cheeks, Wesley Taylor as Sheldon Plankton, and Brian Ray Norris in his Broadway debut as Krusty Krab owner Eugene Krabs.
Hosted by Club Cumming, the show is an unauthorized Batman villain parody.
Matthew Gardiner will direct Max Wolf Friedlich's two-hander, seen on Broadway earlier this season.
