The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which has canceled all previously scheduled programs through April 25 due to the ongoing pandemic, is offering two curated selections of previous performances to celebrate the January 20 inauguration of President Joseph Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris.
In the Concert for Inauguration Day (above), spotlighting the National Symphony Orchestra, The Color Purple Tony winner Cynthia Erivo performs "Take Care of This House" from Leonard Bernstein's 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, while A Raisin in the Sun Tony winner Phylicia Rashad joins the Orchestra for Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait." Also featured: Common, Mumu Fresh, and the Howard Gospel Choir.
The Concert for the 59th Inauguration Day, spotlighting the Washington National Opera, features Carousel Tony nominee Renée Fleming singing J. Todd Frazier's "We Hold These Truths" (with text by Thomas Jefferson) as well as fellow opera stars J'Nai Bridges, Lawrence Brownlee, Soloman Howard, Ryan McKinny, and Eric Owens, plus WNO's Cafritz Young Artists.
