Recent Bandstand star Laura Osnes sings "Christmas, Will You Stay?" in a new music video released November 16. The song, which debuted as a single in 2016, is available for download and streaming on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, and Amazon.
Accompanying Osnes on the piano is songwriter Michael Mott, whose second solo album Abandoned Heartwas released in September.
“Michael and I have been friends for several years, and I was so thrilled when he had the idea of doing a Christmas song together. He came up with a gorgeous melody, and we had a conversation on what we envisioned it to be about,” Osnes told Playbill last year while recording the track. “I knew I wanted themes of peace, nostalgia, pretty snowflakes, and that magical spirit of generosity and joy that only exists at Christmas time. He took those ideas and ran... creating this twinkling, yet lush new song that so perfectly embodies the holiday spirit.”
Orchestrations are by Kim Scharnberg, who produced the video along with Mott and Jeremy Roberts. Stacy Swain served as executive producer, with Christopher Meek providing direction.
The new musical is celebrating the box office opening at the Nederlander with an offer for fans to get $20 tickets, harkening back to Rent's first-of-its-kind ticket lottery.
The new trailer showcases the scale of the production design, as well as a first listen to the power ballad "Waiting on a Wish," one of the new original songs by Pasek and Paul.
