You know how the saying goes: if you stay ready, you don't have to get ready! If there's one thing the first nine guests of Getting Ready! have taught me, it's that a Broadway performer is always up for anything. But flawless performances don't happen without burning passion, tireless preparation, and lots and lots of lash glue.
In the first season of Getting Ready!, Playbill welcomed Queen extraordinaire Alaska Thunderf*ck, everybody's favorite Aunti Lesli Margherita (Gypsy), swamp person Michael Ivan Carrier (& Juliet), slap enthusiast Eva Noblezada (Cabaret), the street's Jessica Vosk (Hell’s Kitchen), proud cat mom Ashley Loren (Moulin Rouge! The Musical), future President of the United States Lencia Kebede, Home Depot regular Kelsie Watts (SIX), and pageant hustler McKenzie Kurtz (Heathers) to the makeup chair. Armed with crystals, tinctures, and felt-pen eyeliner, these Broadway favorites shared audition stories and casting journeys that led them to the spotlight and the intermission rituals that keep them there. In celebration of a year of Broadway beats, here are the nine moments from Getting Ready!'s first season that still have me giggling.
In 2025, the makeup community teased the long-awaited end of the minimalist clean girl aesthetic. With rhinestones, mixed metals, and hot pink blush blocking on the horizon for 2026, I could not be more excited to crack open my compact alongside Broadway's bronzed and brightest in the year to come.
