Tony-winning Hadestown actor André De Shields will play his final performance as Hermes May 29. New casting will be announced at a later date. Along with the 2019 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, De Shields won a Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award for his performance.
The Anaïs Mitchell musical has seen a recent shift in casting, following the April 3 departure of Lana Gordon as Persephone, which came shortly after original cast member Amber Gray left the role. Original Broadway cast member Jewelle Blackman joined the Walter Kerr Theatre production to play the Queen of the Underworld beginning April 5.
Soara-Joye Ross joined the cast on the same day, succeeding Blackman as a Fate and performing alongside Jessie Shelton and Kay Trinidad.
Hadestown features a book and lyrics by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell. In addition to those named above, the cast stars Grammy winner Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Tony nominee Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, and Tony nominee Patrick Page as Hades. The chorus of Workers is played by Emily Afton, Malcolm Armwood, Trent Saunders, and Grace Yoo. Tara Jackson, Tomás Matos, Sayo Oni, Yael “YaYa” Reich, T. Oliver Reid, and Davis Wayne round out the cast as swings.
