Laurie Hernandez, the two-time medal-winning Olympic gymnast, will join the company of the hit Broadway musical & Juliet next month at the Sondheim Theatre.
Hernandez—part of the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team dubbed the “Final Five” at
the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics, winning a gold medal with the
team and a silver medal on the balance beam—will make her Broadway debut beginning March 17. The Dancing With the Stars winner will be part of the musical's ensemble, in the featured dance role of Charmion. She will play a limited engagement through June 14.
“I’ve always been such a Broadway fan, so to make my Broadway debut in & Juliet is
a dream come true,” Hernandez said in a statement. “The show is so much fun to watch
as an audience member, and I can’t wait to join this incredible cast and
actually perform in the show each night.”
The current Broadway company of & Juliet includes Gianna Harris as Juliet, James Monroe Iglehart as Lance, Teal Wicks as Anne, Drew Gehling as Shakespeare, Michael Iván Carrier as May, Kandi Burruss as Angélique, Liam Pearce as Romeo, and Nathan Levy as François.
Gabe Amato, Daniel Assetta, Reese Britts, Nicholas Cooper, Halima Dodo, Jhailyn Paige Farcon, Makai Hernandez, Joomin Hwang, Elsa Keefe, Alaina Ví Maderal, Daniel J. Maldonado, Mackenzie Meadows, Alejandro MullerDahlberg, Cassie Silva, TJ Tapp, Zalah Vallien, Darien Van Rensalier, and Romy Vuksan complete the cast.

Nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, & Juliet flips the script on the William Shakespeare classic, imagining what would happen next if Juliet hadn’t ended it all over Romeo. Featuring a book by David West Read, the score includes famous pop songs written by Max Martin, including “Since U Been Gone,” “Roar,” “I Want It That Way,” and “Confident.”

The production also has direction by Luke Sheppard, choreography by Jennifer Weber, musical supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements by Bill Sherman, scenic design by Soutra Gilmour, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Gareth Owen, video projection design by Andrzej Goulding, hair, wig, and makeup design by J. Jared Janas, and musical direction and additional orchestrations by Dominic Fallacaro.

The international hit, which opened at the Sondheim November 17, 2022 following a run in the West End, was the first new musical of the 2022–2023 Broadway season to announce its recoupment.
