North Shore will see some familiar faces when it hits movie theatres for the second time; Tina Fey revealed on a February 16 appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers that she and Tim Meadows will appear in the upcoming movie-musical of Mean Girls. Fey, who wrote the 2004 film's screenplay and the 2018 stage musical's book, appeared in the original film as math teacher Ms. Norbury. Meadows played Principal Duvall.

Fey isn't completely clear on what roles she and Meadows will play in the upcoming release, though it sounds like they may be reprising their roles from the 2004 film. "We couldn't age out of [our roles]," she says. "Teachers work forever. I do want it to be like when Gilligan from Gilligan's Island was at a trade show and you'd be like, 'Oh, he looks so old in his little hat.'"

As previously announced, the upcoming screen version of the 2018 Broadway musical will star Renée Rapp, reprising her Broadway performance as Plastics queen bee Regina George. Avantika (Senior Year) will take on the ditzy Karen, and Bebe Wood (Love, Victor) will be toaster strudel heiress Gretchen, with Christopher Briney (The Summer I Turned Pretty) starring as Regina's boyfriend Aaron Samuels. The film will also star Broadway alum Jaquel Spivey (A Strange Loop) as Damien, Auli'i Cravalho (Moana, Little Mermaid Live) as Janis, and Angourie Rice (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Cady Heron.

Fey is penning the new film's screenplay after writing the 2004 original and the stage musical's book. The score features music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde). Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez, Jr. are co-directing the project, with choreography by Kyle Hanagami.
