News The Secret Garden Will Get Lavish Avery Fisher Hall Concert Staging The Tony Award-winning musical The Secret Garden, featuring book and lyrics by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon, will be the next large-scale Broadway musical to be staged in concert at Avery Fisher Hall by Manhattan Concert Productions.

The news was revealed during the Feb. 16 presentation of Parade at Avery Fisher Hall, which featured an all-star Broadway cast backed by a chorus of 200 and the New York City Chamber Orchestra. In recent years MCP also offered starry concerts of the Tony-winning musicals Ragtime and Titanic.

The Secret Garden will be presented Feb. 22, 2016. Casting and creative duties will be announced at a later date.

The Secret Garden opened at the St. James Theatre in April 1991, playing 709 performances before closing Jan. 3, 1993. The musical is based on the famed novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The original Broadway cast featured Mandy Patinkin, Alison Fraser, Howard McGillin, Rebecca Luker, Robert Westenberg, John Cameron Mitchell and Daisy Eagan, who won a Tony Award for her performance as Mary Lennox.
