The Broadway transfer of West End and Sydney, Australia's The Picture of Dorian Gray recouped its investment in its final week of performances at the Music Box Theatre. Theatregoers rushing to catch Sarah Snook's 2025 Tony Award- and 2024 Olivier-winning tour de force performance in the solo play drove the box office to the highest weekly take of its entire run, with the sum taking the production over the finish line of paying back its investors.

The week was the second-highest grossing for any production at the Music Box, bested only by the 2017 New Year's week of Dear Evan Hansen. The production had already become the only non-musical play to bring in more than $1 million at the Music Box. Receipts exceeded $2 million in its final week.

The show played its final performance June 29 after playing 15 previews and 88 performances; the play had opened March 27 following previews that began March 10. Read the reviews here.

Succession star Snook made her Broadway debut with the adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic novel, written and directed by Kip Williams. The work came to New York following a sold-out run in London's West End in 2024. It originated at Sydney Theatre Company (where Williams is artistic director) in 2020.

Williams' collision of form employed an interplay of video and theatre through an intricately choreographed collection of on-stage cameras bringing to life 26 characters, each played by Snook. According to Deadline, Cate Blanchett's Dirty Films has already acquired the rights to adapt the stage show for the screen.

The production received six Tony nominations, winning two at the 78th Annual Tony Awards ceremony on June 8, with Marg Horwell taking home Best Costume Design of a Play, and Snook receiving Best Performance by an Actress for a Leading Role in a play.

While Snook was the only performer in the production, she was supported at various points by five camera operators: clew, Luka Kain, Natalie Rich, Benjamin Sheen, and Dara Woo. Benjamin Sheen was the camera captain, and the camera operator understudies were Will Colacito and Benjamin Wheelwright.

The Broadway production of The Picture of Dorian Gray featured set and costume design by Horwell, lighting design by Nick Schlieper, music and sound design by Clemence Williams, video design by David Bergman, and dramaturgy by Eryn Jean Norvill. Jaymi Knierum was production consultant and Lisa Iacucci production stage manager.

Along with Cassel, the Broadway run was produced by Adam Kenwright, Len Blavatnik and Danny Cohen, Daryl Roth, Amanda Lipitz, and Henry Tisch. Foresight Theatrical was the general manager, and Aaron Lustbader was executive producer. Michael Cassel Group is the worldwide executive producer.
