The new musical features music and lyrics by Justin Huertas, and a book by Mary Winn Heider.

The Mortification of Fovea Munson, a new musical based on Mary Winn Heider's celebrated novel, has announced the full cast and creative team for its Kennedy Center world premiere in Washington, D.C.

Featuring music and lyrics by Justin Huertas, and a book by Heider, The Mortification of Fovera Munson will be directed by M. Graham Smith, choreographed by Ashleigh King, and include music direction, arrangements, and orchestrations by Steven Tran.

The Mortification of Fovea Munson will Regina Aquino as Mom/Grandma Van, Dylan Arredondo as Dad/McMullen/Mr. Peters, Jonathan Atkinson as Andy/Inko/Kid 1, Christopher Michael Richardson as Howe, Michael Mainwaring as Lake/Frog/Zombie/Kid 2/Delivery Person, Justine “Icy” Moral as Fovea, and Farrell Parker as Emmy/Whitney/Inspector.

The musical follows Fovea Munson, a girl whose finds herself stuck working in her parents' cadaver lab after her summer camp plans fall through. 

“I wrote about singing cadaver lab specimens—and now I actually get to see them sing!” said Heider. “It has been a dream watching this incredible team bring the book to life on stage.”

Additional creative team members include dramaturg Ely Sonny Orquiza, scenic designer Arnel Sancianco, costume designer Erik Teague, lighting designer Lee Fiskness, sound designer Cresent Haynes, puppet coach Matt Reckeweg, props designer Jason Dearing, and casting director Jorge Acevedo. Julia Singer is the production stage manager, Genevieve Dornemann is the assistant stage manager, and Acadia Berrengos and Kelly Colburn are the assistant directors.

The March 18 performance at 11 AM will be staged in a sensory-friendly manner in order to welcome families with sensory sensitivities. Following the March 4 performance, a talkback will be held with the shows cast and creative team.
