Tony winner David Cromer has joined the cast of the Broadway premiere of Kenneth Lonergan’s The Waverly Gallery, directed by Lila Neugebauer. The Band's Visit director joins the previously announced Elaine May, Michael Cera, Joan Allen, and Lucas Hedges in the fall production from producer Scott Rudin.
Performances of The Waverly Gallery will begin September 25 at the John Golden Theatre. Opening night is scheduled for October 25.

Cromer, who is also an actor, will play the role of Howard Fine. He last appeared on Broadway as Karl Lindner in the 2014 revival of A Raisin in the Sun, and Off-Broadway as the Stage Manager in Our Town, which he also directed, at the Barrow Street Theatre. His onscreen credits include The Newsroom, Billions, and The Meyerowitz Stories. As a director, he was behind the Broadway revivals of Brighton Beach Memoirs and The House of Blue Leaves, and Off-Broadway, has directed The Treasurer, Man from Nebraska, The Effect, Orson’s Shadow, and Tribes, among other plays. Most recently, he helmed Adam Rapp's The Sound Inside at the 2018 Williamstown Theatre Festival.
In The Waverly Gallery, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2001, a strong-willed Greenwich Village art dealer faces the onset of Alzheimers. May, in her first Broadway role since 1960, will star as Gladys Green. The play explores her fight to retain her independence and the impacts of her decline on her family.
The production will feature sets by David Zinn, costumes by Ann Roth, and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt.
The Waverly Gallery originally premiered at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in August 1999, before opening Off-Broadway at the Promenade Theatre in March 2000.
