Encores! will present Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the Tony-winning musical based on Mark Twain’s classic American novel, at New York City Center February 8–12.
“This show is an underrated musical,” says Kyle Scatliffe, who most recently starred in the Tony-winning revival of The Color Purple. “It may have won [the Tony] … but I think it’s an underrated one. There’s so much more to it than just Huck and Jim and their story.”
Based on Twain’s novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the musical by Roger Miller and William Hauptman took home seven Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical, in 1985.
Watch as Playbill meets director Lear de Bessonet and stars Scatliffe, Nicholas Barasch, and Christopher Sieber at the press day for the new production—and listens in on “Leavin’s Not The Only Way To Go” and “Muddy Water.”
