Students of NYU’s Steinhardt School will present the New York City premiere of Tony Award-winning Ragtime and Anastasia composer Stephen Flaherty’s intimate song cycle Loving Repeating for four performances September 29–October 1 at the Provincetown Playhouse.
Created by Flaherty and Tony Award-winning director Frank Galati, Loving Repeating draws on the writings of Gertrude Stein, exploring her life and times in the context of her relationship with Alice B. Toklas. The piece had its premiere in Chicago in 2006 and is preserved on a cast album.

In advance of the coming production, Flaherty visited students during rehearsals to speak with them about the show’s creation, and how he and Galati only used Stein’s actual words for the show’s text.
Jessica Bashline directs a cast that includes Sophie Adickes, Matthew Anderson, Stephanie Bacastow, Mackenzie Bykowski, Mara Friedman, Stephen Heller, Natalie Young, and Stephanie VanAlstine. Bob Kelly is music director with Ryan Driscoll as music supervisor.
