Film & TV News Shrek 5 Sets Summer 2026 Release Date

Stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz will return to lend their voices to the film.

Dreamworks Animation has announced that Shrek 5 will hit movie theatres July 1, 2026. Mike Myers will return to voice the title character, with Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz also returning as Donkey and Fiona, respectively.

The film will be released over 16 years after the last entry in the franchise, Shrek Forever After, which premiered in 2010. Walt Dohrn will direct the film after serving as a writer and artist on Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third, then as head of story and the voice of Rumpelstiltskin for Shrek Forever After, Variety reports. Gina Shay and Illumination founder Chris Meledandri will produce, with Brad Ableson as co-director.

A musical adaptation of the first Shrek film, with elements of its sequels, opened on Broadway in 2008 and ran through early 2010. The work features music by Jeanine Tesori and a book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. Brian d'Arcy James starred as Shrek, with Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona, and Daniel Breaker as Donkey. The Broadway production received eight Tony nominations including Best Musical, and won the award for Best Costume Design for Tim Hatley.
