An Equity casting notice states that a mid-September reading is being scheduled for the new musical written by Chad Beguelin, Nell Benjamin, Bob Martin, Matthew Sklar and the late Marvin Hamlisch.
Berinstein's 2009 documentary centers on the New Jersey Net's first-ever senior citizen hip-hop dance team. The film chronicles "12 women and 1 man - all dance team newbies, from auditions through to center court stardom."
Since the film's premiere, Berinstein has been working with Mitchell to bring Gotta Dance to Broadway. Berinstein is the filmmaker of "Showbusiness," "Carole Channing: Larger Than Life" and "Marvin Hamlisch: The Way He Was," as well as the stage productions Legally Blonde and Thoroughly Modern Millie, among others.
Berinstein's Dramatic Forces is shepherding the new musical along with Dreamworks Theatricals.
Mitchell is also at work on the upcoming Gloria Estefan musical On Your Feet. He directed and choreographed Legally Blonde and earned Tony Awards for his choreography to Hairspray and Kinky Boots.
