A new adaptation of the classic Sophocles tragedy Oedipus, written and directed by Robert Icke, will open in the West End in the fall.

Starring Olivier winners Mark Strong (A View From the Bridge, The Long Firm) and Lesley Manville (Ghosts, The Crown) as Oedipus and Jocasta, performances will begin October 4 at Wyndham’s Theatre. The production will officially open October 15, and run through January 4, 2025.

Strong and Manville will be joined by Samuel Brewer as Teiresias, Michael Gould as Creon, Sara Hazemi as Lichas, Gary McDonald as Driver, Bhasker Patel as Corin, Phia Saban as Antigone, Jordan Scowen as Eteocles, June Watson as Merope, and James Wilbraham as Polyneices. They will be supported by Jim Creighton, Derek Elroy, Celia Nelson, and Jake Rory.

Icke’s production, originally presented in Dutch at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam and subsequently at the Edinburgh International Festival, is set on election night. The polls predict a landslide victory, but everything is about to change.

Director Icke (1984, The Doctor) leads a creative team consisting of set designer Hildegard Bechtler, costume designer Wojciech Dziedzic, lighting designer Natasha Chivers, sound designer Tom Gibbons, video designer Tal Yarden, with casting by Julia Horan.

Sonia Friedman Productions produces.
