Benét Monteiro is leading the new Hamburg production of the Disney animated film, directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw.

A new production of Disney's Hercules is headed for Hamburg's Theater Neue Flora in Germany, and a newly released video offers a first look at the production's star, Benét Monteiro. Hear Monteiro sing "Endlich Angekommen" (literally translated "Finally Arrived," the German version of "Go the Distance") above.

The upcoming production will be distinct from the versions that have played the U.S., via the Public's Free Shakespeare in the Park series in 2019 and at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse earlier this year. The new iteration is directed and choreographed by The Book of Mormon and Some Like It Hot Tony winner Casey Nicholaw, alongside co-choreographer Tanisha Scott. Music is by Alan Menken with lyrics by David Zippel, and the book is by Robert Horn and Kwame Kwei-Armah, adapted from the screenplay penned by Ron Clements, John Musker, Donald McEnery, Bob Shaw, and Irene Mecchi.

Monteiro hails from Brazil, where he's previously played Seaweed in Hairspray and Jack in Into the Woods. He released a debut EP in 2021 under the stage name Angeluz, featuring his single "Can We Go On." Monteiro's German performing credits include The Lion KingSister ActKinky BootsBat Out of HellMamma Mia!, Hamilton, and Frozen (or more accurately, Disney's Die Eiskönign).

The stage adaptation of the 1997 animated film made its world premiere in 2019 via The Public Theater's Free Shakespeare in the Park series, with Lear deBessonet directing. DeBessonet also helmed the 2023 Paper Mill Playhouse production.
