There's no telling how much further she'll go! The first teaser trailer for Moana 2, the follow-up to Disney's animated 2016 movie musical, has been released. Get a look above. The film is set to hit theatres November 27.
The film is directed by Dave Derrick Jr. (Encanto); and features music by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear (The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical), Opetaia Foa'i, and Mark Mancina. Returning from the 2016 film in the voice cast are Auli'i Cravalho in the title role and Dwayne Johnson as Maui.
Moana 2 will reportedly take audiences on an adventure with Moana and a brand-new crew of seafarers. When Moana receives an unexpected call from her ancestors, she "must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she's ever faced."
As of spring 2023, Disney is also working on a live-action remake of Moana. Directed by Tony winner Thomas Kail, the film features a screenplay by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller; with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa'i, and Mark Mancina. Johnson also announced that he will return to the role of Maui for the remake.
A stage adaptation of Moana debuted in 2019, part of Music Theatre International's Broadway Junior series.
