Sean Daniels' autobiographical comedy The White Chip will return to NYC with an Off-Broadway run at The Susan & Ronald Frankel Theater in The Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space this winter, with performances beginning January 22, 2024, ahead of a February 1 opening night. Sheryl Kaller is back to direct after staging the work's 2019 Off-Broadway premiere.

Joe Tapper is also reprising his performance as Steven, on top of the world and steps away from his dream job running one of the most exciting theatres in the country but also an alcoholic spinning out of control. The play follows his life from first sip to first love and all the way to rock bottom, where he begins his wild journey to recovery. Further casting is to be announced.

The work played Off-Broadway in 2019 at 59E59 Theaters. The upcoming production will be a new staging, with a creative team to be announced.

On the team of producers bringing the show back to NYC are John Larroquette, current Sweeney Todd star (and Tapper's wife) Annaleigh Ashford, recovery activist and writer Ryan Hampton, and The Recovery Project. Though performing at MCC's venue, the run is not an MCC production.

"When we first staged Sean's incredible play in New York back in 2019, we knew it would not and could not be the last time audiences got the chance to see this indelible work and Joe's monumental central performance," says Kaller. "The White Chip is not only immensely entertaining—both bitingly funny and deeply moving—but also culture-shifting. Like all truly great art, Sean's play is an act of service in so many ways for all those in recovery and their friends and loved ones. We cannot wait to share it once again with New York theatregoers, and look forward to the new audiences that will discover and be transformed by it."
