5 Glee Stars You Can See Onstage This Spring
If you're looking to liven up your spring show schedule, why not add some of these Glee-ful theatrical offerings to the mix?
March 27, 2026 By Margaret Hall
Good news Gleeks! Some of your favorite screen stars are treading the boards in New York City this spring, lighting up the stage from Broadway to Off-Broadway, from beloved new musicals to hit revivals, dance shows to spelling bees.
If you're looking to liven up your spring show schedule, why not add some of these Glee-ful theatrical offerings to the mix? But act fast: Many of these McKinley High Alumni won't be around for long.
Lea Michele in Chess
Michele made a name for herself as the ultimate theatre kid, Rachel Berry. This season she's back where she belongs on Broadway, playing Florence Vassey in the hit revival of Chess, where she plays a chess devotee and showcases her voice to stunning effect in songs such as "Someone Else's Story" and "Nobody's Side." The multi-extended production plays the Imperial Theatre, where Michele is joined by Tony winner Aaron Tveit as Freddie Trumper, Nicholas Christopher as Anatoly Sergievsky, Hannah Cruz as Svetlana, Bradley Dean as Molokov, Sean Allan Krill as Walter, and Bryce Pinkham as The Arbiter. If you want to see Michele in action, act fast: she is scheduled to take her final bow in the musical June 21, with Joanna "JoJo" Levesque set to succeed her as Florence beginning June 23.
Matthew Morrison in Just In Time
Morrison was a Tony nominee (for The Light in the Piazza) and Broadway's original Link Larkin in Hairspray prior to his time on Glee. But to Gen-Z, he will always be Mr. Schue. Next week, Morrison is returning to Broadway for a limited time only, playing midcentury crooner Bobby Darin in Just in Time. And if you purchase tickets to the cabaret seats, he might even pull you up to dance! Morrison takes over the role, from former Glee castmate Jonathan Groff, April 1–19. After, Jeremy Jordan takes over the production. Make your way to Circle in the Square Theatre quickly if you want to see Mr. Schue go "beyond the sea."
Darren Criss in Maybe Happy Ending
Darren Criss may be the biggest breakout star Glee produced, going from guest star to Emmy and Golden Globe-winning entertainment industry powerhouse. And just last year, he won the Tony for his performance as Oliver in the hit musical Maybe Happy Ending. You only have a few more weeks to see this former Warbler play a HelperBot who learns how to love. Criss is due to take his final bow May 17, and the name of his replacement is still under wraps. If you want to relive your teenage dreams, make sure to swing by the Belasco Theatre this spring.
Kevin McHale in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Known to the world as the sensitive-yet-sassy Artie Abrams, McHale is making full use of his physical comedy skills in the revival of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, now playing New World Stages. The production is a certified hit, extending multiple times at the venue. You now have until September 6 to join in the joyous hijinks and shenanigans that underpin the William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin classic—and if you're brave, you might be pulled onto the stage to participate in the bee. So your word is expeditiously, as in "now is the time to make your way expeditiously to the theatre!"
Heather Morris in 11 to Midnight
Morris turned a bit part into a fan favorite as the endearingly zany Brittany S. Pierce. But this spring, she's going back to her roots. Originally an in-demand concert dancer (and one of Beyoncé's favorites!), Morris is stepping into the Off-Broadway dance show 11 to Midnight for a limited engagement at the Orpheum Theatre April 9–May 11. Choreographed by TikTok stars Austin and Marideth Telenko (aka Cost n' Mayor), Morris is sure to turn heads as she puts her talent on display!
