Awards season has begun again! The Hollywood Critics Association Awards announced this year's Television Awards nominations July 11, and theatre fans are sure to be pleased.
Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Comedy Series for her work on the musical comedy series Schmigadoon!, a category she shares with other theatre favorites including Ashley Park for Emily in Paris, Hannah Waddingham for Ted Lasso, and Rachel Bloom for Reboot.
Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies received a nomination for Best Streaming Comedy Series, as did Only Murders in the Building and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which both star Broadway talent. Speaking of Maisel, the final season of the beloved comedy series was well rewarded, with just-stepped-off-the-Broadway-stage star Rachel Brosnahan snagging a nomination for Best Actress in a Streaming Comedy Series, Tony winner Tony Shalhoub receiving a nod for Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Comedy Series, and Alex Borstein sliding into Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Comedy Series. The show itself also received nods for Best Writing in a Streaming Comedy Series and Best Directing in a Streaming Comedy Series. Tits up!
Only Murders in the Building racked up a similarly impressive stack of nominations for its second season, including the aforementioned Best Streaming Comedy Series nod, Best Actor in a Streaming Comedy Series nominations for both Steve Martin and Martin Short, a Best Actress in a Streaming Comedy Series for Selena Gomez, and nominations for Best Writing in a Streaming Comedy Series and Best Directing in a Streaming Comedy Series.
Both Christina Applegate and Tatiana Maslany received Best Actress in a Streaming Comedy Series nods, James Marsden received double Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Comedy Series nominations for his work in Dead to Me and Jury Duty, Patrick Stewart received a Best Actor in a Streaming Drama Series nomination for his work on Picard, and Helen Mirren was nominated for Best Actress in a Streaming Drama Series in honor of her work on 1923.
Bradley Whitford and Brent Spiner will face off for the Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Drama Series honor, Daniel Radcliffe received a nomination for Best Actor in a Limited Series or Streaming Movie for his work on Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and both Annaleigh Ashford and Ashley Park are in competition for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Streaming Movie, making Park's second nomination of the ceremony, this time for her work on Beef.
