Santino Fontana, who earned a Tony nomination playing the Prince in Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella and who was regularly spotted as Greg on the musical CW series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, will get a solo chance to shine October 9 when he brings his club show to New York’s Birdland cabaret for a single 7 PM performance.
Fontana told Playbill that the show will be a variation on one he did in February as part of Lincoln Center’s American Songbook Series. Here is his planned playlist, subject to change:
“New York City Blues”
“When Sunny Gets Blue”
“Don’t You Worry ’bout a Thing ”
“It’s Magic”
“I Feel Pretty”
“Evil Man Blues”
“Pick Yourself Up”
“Lush Life”
“Travelin’ Man”
“On a Clear Day”
“In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning”
“There’s Music in You”
“Both Sides Now”
“Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home”
“As Long as I’m Singing”
For this version of the show, he said, he will be performing with an instrumental trio.
Fontana originated the role of The Boy in the long-running 2006 revival of The Fantasticks. He has seven Broadway productions to his credit, including Billy Elliot, The Importance of Being Earnest, and Act One. He also played the title character in the Encores! concert revival of God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, and John Adams in the Encores! production of 1776.
As for his upcoming schedule, Fontana said, “I shot a few episodes of Mozart In the Jungle, and am waiting to hear about a Seth Rogen FX pilot I shot in May. I’m also going to be celebrating [Leonard] Bernstein in a concert at the Kennedy Center later this month.”
