Broadway Licensing has added cult favorite rock musical Lizzie to its catalog for worldwide licensing. The work, exploring the days leading up to the murder of Lizzie Borden's father and stepmother and the controversy that followed, features music and lyrics by Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer; lyrics, book, and additional music by Tim Maner; and music and additional lyrics by Alan Stevens Hewitt.
The work entered development through tiny mythic theatre company in the '90s, ultimately making its world premiere Off-Broadway at The Living Theatre in 2009. In the years that followed, a cast recording was released and a number of new productions staged, including international stagings in Denmark, New Zealand, Spain, Australia, and Hungary. Eden Espinosa led the cast of the work's London premiere in 2017.
“In its effort to help make everyone a theatre person, Broadway Licensing is pleased to license Lizzie,” says Broadway Licensing CEO and Founder Sean Cercone. "Everyone thinks they know her story, and now musical theatre companies everywhere can rock their version of this famously gruesome tale."
