Kayleigh McKnight, whose London credits include SIX, Mandela, and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, stars in the title role of Hope Mill Theatre's return production of the rock musical Lizzie, officially opening October 20 following previews that began October 17.
Directed and choreographed by William Whelton, the musical will play the Manchester venue through November 10.
The cast also features Katie Tonkinson (Bonnie & Clyde, Bat Out of Hell) as Alice, Jennifer Caldwell (SIX, Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World) as Bridget, and Emilie Louise Israel (Hamilton, Once on This Island) as Emma. Completing the company are Emma Louise Hoey (Lizzie, Club Mex) as Alternate Lizzie and Cover Alice and Eve Kitchingman (LIFT The Musical, The Commitments) as Cover Emma and Bridget.
Based on an original concept by Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer and Tim Maner, Lizzie the Musical has music
by Cheslik-DeMeyer and Alan Stevens Hewitt, lyrics by Cheslik-DeMeyer
and Maner, and a book by Maner with additional music by Maner and
additional lyrics by Hewitt. The musical explores the life of Lizzie
Borden, who was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an
axe in summer 1892.
Director Whelton said in an earlier statement, “After such a successful run of Lizzie the Musical last autumn in Manchester and across the U.K., including a run
at London’s Southwark Playhouse Elephant, I am thrilled to bring Lizzie back home to Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre, where the show was
rehearsed and created, for a strictly limited run this autumn. Audiences
across the U.K. fell in love with this show just as much as I have, and I
can’t wait to share this again with fans of the show and welcoming even
more new audiences into The House of Borden."
The production also has orchestrations by Alan Stevens Hewitt, set and lighting design by Andrew Exeter, sound design by Adam Fisher, musical direction by Ella Ingram, musical supervision by Katy Richardson, video design by Dan Light, dialect coaching by Manny Crooks, costume design by Rachel Tansey, and casting by Pearson Casting.
Hope Mill Theatre produces the musical, which is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC.
