Pride Films and Plays executive director David Zak and artistic director Nelson Rodriguez have announced their 2016-17 season, under the theme “Let in the Light.” Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and The Nance are two of the season’s titles.

The world premiere of Nancy Nyman and Heather McNama’s Resolution, directed by Diana Raiselis, will kick off the season, running October 21-November 20 at the Rivendell Theatre. The cast includes Edward Fraim, Aneisa Hicks, Tiffany Mitchenor and Amber Snyder.

Described as a “vintage queer thriller for the modern era,” the show is set on New Year’s Eve in 1892. Husband and wife Jack and Hannah make their resolutions for the coming year, but their lives may never be the same again after their maid discovers the couple’s secret.

The Chicago premiere of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert will be the inaugural production in the company’s two-stage Pride Arts Center and will be performed in the center’s 85-seat Broadway stage (at 4139 N. Broadway). Performances run January 12-February 12, 2017.

Also making its Chicago premiere is Douglas Carter Beane’s The Nance, which ran on Broadway in 2013 starring Nathan Lane; performances run June 22-July 23, 2017.

The world premiere of Gina Femia’s For the Love Of (or, the Roller Derby Play) will run March 16-April 16, 2017, at Pride Arts Center’s The Buena. According to the company, “When Joy gets on to the best roller derby team in the country, the Brooklyn Scallywags, and meets the star, Lizzie Lightning, she and her long-term girlfriend Michelle find their lives turned upside down. For the Love Of asks how much you’re willing to sacrifice—or lose—in order to follow your heart.”
