This season's Keen on New Work series from Off-Broadway's Keen Company will present developmental readings of new plays by 2022 Keen Playwrights Lab writers Kristoffer Diaz, Sarah Schulman, and Anna Ziegler.
Ziegler's Antigones kicks off the series December 2 at 3 PM, with a cast including Santino Fontana, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Maria-Christina Oliveras, Marianne Rendón, and Armando Riesco. The play reimagines the Greek drama for the #MeToo and post-Roe movements, with its title character battling "on more personal grounds," according to press notes.
Diaz's Things With Friends follows December 12 at 3 PM, with casting to be announced. The play is described as Diaz's "dark riff on the 'sitting on fancy couches drinking expensive wine and eventually revealing deeply hidden secrets' genre of drama."
Schulman's Free Ali! Free Bob! closes out the series January 9, 2023, at 3 PM, with casting to be announced. The work follows a gay art clique of Bloorsville as they're thrown into disarray following the overseas arrest of their ringleader.
Keen's Playwrights Lab invites three mid-career playwrights to develop new full-length plays with Keen, centered on topics of identification, reflection, and emotional connection—the Keen on New Work series is the culmination of the initiative. The program is led by Keen Company Director of New Work Jeremy Stoller.
