Broadway veteran and Tony Award-winning Hell's Kitchen star Kecia Lewis has received a Sardi's portrait, which will now be displayed on the famed restaurant's wall, amongst the likes of fellow Broadway luminaries such as Audra McDonald, André De Shields, and many more.
Lewis' former co-star LaChanze honored her with a speech before the unveiling, saying: "I fell in love with Kecia when we met on Once on This Island at Playwrights Horizons, where she created the role of Asaka. We were ingenues ready to take over. She's my younger sister. Don't let her forget."
The company of Hell's Kitchen, as well as many of Lewis' other former collaborators, were also present to celebrate the momentous occasion, joyfully cheering as Lewis' likeness was revealed on the canvas. Said Lewis upon receiving the honor: "This experience, these last almost-three years now, has been an experience like no other. It has felt like a full-circle for me in so many ways, and part of why I'm standing here and why I fight like I fight and do like I do is for y'all. It's for all of y'all, because you are the ones who come up and spread out and make this business better."
Lewis posed for pictures with LaChanze, Max Klimavicius, Michael Greif, and many more. See the photos in the gallery below.
Lewis is currently starring in Hell's Kitchen as Miss Liza Jane—a performance which earned her a 2024 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, as well as awards from the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Lucille Lortel awards. She has also graced the Broadway stage in Dreamgirls, Chicago, The Drowsy Chaperone, Once on This Island, and many more.
