Huzzah!, the new Ren Fair-themed musical from Legally Blonde songwriters Nell Benjamin and Laurence O'Keefe, is currently making its world premiere at San Diego's Old Globe, and we've got a first look at the new show! See the newly released production shots in the gallery below. The musical opens September 25, with the run continuing through October 19 on the California company's Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage. Annie Tippe is at the helm.
The original story takes audiences to the Kingsbridge Midsummer Renaissance Faire, where two sisters are working to save the family business from financial ruin. To save the faire, the sisters shell out big bucks for the greatest swordsman on the Ren Faire circuit, which could fix everything or be the final nail in the coffin.
The cast includes Josh Breckenridge (Swept Away) as Inigo Johnson, Anthony Chatmon II (Hadestown) as Gareth, Peyton Crim (The Play That Goes Wrong) as Wayland Smith, Matt DaSilva (Beauty and the Beast) as Troubadour Tim, Cailen Fu (Mean Girls) as Kate Mirandola, Allison Guinn (Tammy Faye) as Lady Eve, LaFontaine (DRAG: The Musical) as Gwen Mirandola, Mike Millan (Escape to Margaritaville) as Juan Diego Santiago de Fuensalida, Kevin Pariseau (Little Shop of Horrors) as Sir John Thomas Morningwood, Leo Roberts (Mrs. Doubtfire) as Sir Rowland Prowd, Kate Shindle (Legally Blonde) as Anne Bonny the Pirate Queen, and Lance Arthur Smith (October Sky) as Johnny Mirandola.
The ensemble features Michael Cusimano, Beth Stafford Laird, Michelle Lauto, Tatiana Lofton, and Aaron Michael Ray, with swings Berto Fernández, Max Antonio Gonzalez, Sophia LaRosh, and Katheryne Penny rounding out the company. Casting is by Bethany Knox and Jimmy Larkin of The Telsey Office
Benjamin and O'Keefe previously collaborated on The Mice, Sarah Plain and Tall, Cam Jansen, and Legally Blonde. Separately, Benjamin has contributed lyrics to Mean Girls, while O'Keefe's other musicals include Bat Boy and Heathers.
Tippe's creative team includes choreographer Katie Spelman, orchestrator Ben Green, music director Alejandro Senior, music supervisor Mary-Mitchell Campbell, scenic designer Todd Rosenthal, costume designer Haydee Zelideth, lighting designer Jeff Croiter, sound designer Connor Wang, wig designer Earon Chew Nealy, fight director Jacob Grigolia-Rosenbaum, and voice and dialect coach Emmelyn Thayer. Michael Passaro serves as production stage manager.
The associate team includes associate director Hayley Goldenberg, associate choreographor Kelsey Burns, and associate music supervisor Elizabeth Doran.
