Christopher McGovern was the music director; casting was by Geoff Josselson.
Tenderloin, based on a novel by Samuel Hopkins Adams, "tells the tale of Dr. Brock, a crusading Minister who has dedicated himself to cleaning up that section of New York devoted to vice, the area known as the 'Tenderloin,'" according to press notes. "Naturally, those whose livelihoods depended on that vice dedicated themselves to seeing that Dr. Brock didn’t succeed." "We are a little sad to be at the final production of our Sheldon Harnick Musicals in Mufti Series, but that it is this wonderful show with this incredible cast makes it a happy ending indeed! Tenderloin has not been seen in a [fully staged] professional production in New York City in over 20 years — and this is everyone's chance to see it with a stunning Broadway cast,” said producing artistic director James Morgan in an earlier statement.
Margery Gray Harnick, who starred in the original Broadway production of Tenderloin and later married the musical's lyricist, told Playbill.com, "[I was] so lucky to have met the exceptionally talented Sheldon Harnick, the love of my life, and to have worked with George Abbott, Joe Layton and, of course, Jerry Bock during the original production. Now, it is extremely heartwarming after all these years to see the show performed as part of the Mufti series. Thank you, York Theatre Company!"
