Tony Awards Patrick Marber Wins 2023 Tony for Best Direction of a Play

Marber has been recognized for his direction of Leopoldstadt.

Patrick Marber was named the winner of the 2023 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play at the 76th Annual Tony Awards, held at the United Palace in Washington Heights June 11.

Marber picks up his first Tony win for directing Tom Stoppard's Leopoldstadt. He was previously nominated for directing Travesties, another Stoppard play, in 2018. The British director made his Broadway directorial and playwriting debut with Closer, and also directed After Miss Julie.

Others in the 2023 Best Direction category included Saheem Ali for Fat Ham; Jo Bonney for Cost of Living; Jamie Lloyd for A Doll's House; Stevie Walker-Webb for Ain't No Mo'; and Max Webster for Life of Pi.
